Manulife Centre for Community Health Research

A Message From the Incoming Director

I would like to extend my gratitude to the outgoing director of MCCHR, Dr. Ginette Lafrenière, for her tireless dedication in shaping the research centre into what it is today. Her commitment to building meaningful partnerships, expanding research opportunities, and championing social justice-oriented scholarship has laid a strong foundation for the centre’s continued success.

I also want to acknowledge the students, volunteers, and faculty members whose invaluable contributions have elevated MCCHR’s work. Their dedication to community-based research, knowledge-sharing, and social innovation has strengthened the centre’s ability to address critical social and health challenges.

As we move forward, MCCHR remains committed to fostering an environment where knowledge and research translate into real-world impact. Our mission is to advance knowledge and develop innovative solutions at the intersection of mental health, disability, climate change, and other contemporary social challenges. Our key priorities include:

    • Conducting interdisciplinary research that addresses complex social issues impacting well-being.
    • Influencing policy and practice through evidence-based research and collaborative community partnerships.
    • Advancing equity and resilience in communities across Canada and internationally, with a special focus on the Global South.

We will continue to engage students, researchers, and community partners, ensuring MCCHR serves as a hub for transformative research and social innovation. I encourage students and faculty to explore the many opportunities available, whether through collaborative projects, placements, or research initiatives.

Together, we will build on the centre’s legacy, expand its reach, and create meaningful change that strengthens communities worldwide.

I look forward to the exciting journey ahead,

    Magnus
